“Nantucket Noel,” starring Sarah Power and Trevor Donovan, premiered on November 19 during 2021’s Countdown to Christmas on Hallmark Channel. Based on the book Let It Snow (affiliate link) by Nancy Thayer, the script was done by Erin Rodman and Alex Wright. Kirsten Hansen directed. The movie was filmed in Gibsons, standing in for Nantucket. Gibsons was also the location used for this year’s Christmas Sail as well as 2019’s All Summer Long.
This movie poster has a mild touch of Christmas spirit with the wreath on the lighthouse, but is still pretty standard. And it’s another red coat, green scarf situation.
Music: The only song I took note of was the use of Here’s to Christmas (affiliate link) by Andy Powell.
In a nutshell
This movie was a pretty bland, run of the mill Hallmark movie. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t great either. It suffered from mediocrity.
The Plot of “Nantucket Noel”
During the Seaside Noel celebrations Christina learns of a developer who is planning to tear down the wharf that is home to her toy store. Tensions rise as she falls for the developer’s son, Andy.
Actors & Chemistry
People will recognize Sarah Power from her roles in the Good Witch series, or on “Killjoys.” I, however, recognized her from a couple episodes of “Schitt’s Creek.” I really liked her a lot in this movie. Her character was stubborn about being told she had to move her store due to development, but was never strident or unlikeable. Trevor Donovan was able to play Andy the evil land developer without ever truly being the bad guy. Payton Lepinski reappears on Hallmark as Andy’s daughter Wink, her last appearance being in 2019’s Holiday Hearts.
I liked these three actors together. Power and Donovan were good together even if I never felt any romantic chemistry between them. I thought Lepinski was great, in particular. Let’s be honest – not every child actor in these movies is good, but she was.
Tropes
Andy is an evil land developer. Cute kid. We got a trip and fall meet cute – we’ve not had one of those in a long time. CGI snow.
Andy and Christina took Wink tree shopping and then decorated it together. Later we had caroling and a gingerbread house build. Very soon after there was cookie decorating as well. We had a kiss with 30 more minutes to go in the movie!
Did I Hear/See That Right?
Now, I’m no land developer, but I do believe that there was no need for the shops on the wharf to move out before the holidays because a company can’t just buy property for revitalization and then immediately get started on their plans. They have to do impact studies, get permits, get bids from contractors, go through the approvals process and THEN get started. That doesn’t happen in a couple of weeks.
How on earth does a notary public make enough money to have an actual shop? I’ve been a notary for over 15 years. Even when I worked at a law firm in the trusts & estates department I only notarized a set of documents once a week. The once I left the law firm and went to another company, I notarized maybe once a month. I’ve been with my current company for 4 years and I’ve notarized maybe a dozen documents. There’s no way a notary can have his or her own shop.
Feelgoods
I didn’t really have any moments in the movie that stood out to me.
Re-watchability of “Nantucket Noel”
Nope, I probably won’t rewatch this one.
