Hey there, and welcome to Hallmark For All Seasons! First and foremost, I am not a professional movie critic. Not in the slightest. I am merely someone that has been a fan of Hallmark movies for a very long time – at least a decade (but probably longer). It was around 2013 that I became a die-hard fan of Hallmark movies.
On a whim in 2018 I created a ranked list of all 38 Hallmark Christmas movies. I had so much fun doing it that I decided to get more scientific in 2019 AND to write commentary/reviews of every single movie in 2019 as well. It was a very fun year, although some folks experienced displeasure when I didn’t like a movie as much as they did. But as I’ve said many times, the great thing about about movies is there is something for almost everybody to find and enjoy in some way.
How Are Scores Determined?
I’m a spreadsheet nerd and created a spreadsheet that assigns points to six different categories, which are then weighted and calculated to provide a final score. The most raw score points a movie can earn across all categories is 800. Those categories are:
- Plot (100 pts)
- Actors (a term I use for both male and female performers) (100 pts)
- Chemistry (100 pts)
- Feelgoods (200 pts)
- Tropes (250 pts)
- Problems (this category REMOVES points if there are plotholes or other issues in the storytelling) (-100 pts)
- Would I watch it again? (150 pts)
Those categories are then weighted, with the max weighted score being 142.5. Depending on what points are earned (and it’s PURELY based on my subjective opinion), every movie gets a weighted score which is then turned into a percentage “grade.” Because of the weighted scoring, it is entirely possible for a movie with a higher raw score to have a lower final rank than a movie with a lower raw score (and this has happened a few times). This is one reason I have enabled sorting on my table of ranked Hallmark movies – so that readers can sort and see which has the highest ranked score AND highest raw score at any given time.
Is it a perfect system? Of course not. Subjective movie reviews are never perfect, are they? But the spreadsheet has allowed me to get a clearer focus on the movies I love to watch AND makes it easier to keep a fun ranked list of all the Hallmark movies I’ve watched over the years.
All opinions on this site are solely my own. Once again, this is not a professional critic site and I do this purely for fun. Additionally, as an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases when people click on those identified links.
