Christmas Con ends today (With any luck I’ll be blogging about the event later in the week), but the previews are still going! Tonight we have one more movie to close out the weekend, and I am both excited for this one and dreading this one. I’m very conflicted, y’all.
Let me start this preview by saying that I love Tyler Hynes. I like the movies he makes for Hallmark, and I love the quirky, dry humored, stoic but charming personality he gives all his characters. He does some subtle throwaway looks or actions in all his movies that always make me laugh. He is fabulous. But. And it’s a big BUT! I hated “Christmas in Graceland” last year, which starred Tyler’s latest leading lady, Kellie Pickler. It’s not my least favorite of all-time, but it’s in the bottom five.
And so when I heard that one of my favorite leading men was paired with one of my least favorite leading ladies, I didn’t know what to think. Has Pickler had some actor training since “Wedding in Memphis?” I doubt it, so this movie is going to be a struggle to get through. And it’s not that I don’t like Pickler at all. I loved her on “American Idol” back in the day. But she’s not an actress. She’s just not.
“The Mistletoe Secret” airs tonight at 8 p.m. ET on Hallmark Channel. As with the other movies this weekend, since I’m at the Christmas Convention, I won’t be able to watch live, but I do know this will be the first one I watch when I get home tomorrow afternoon.
Here is the plot of “The Mistletoe Secret,” as outlined from the Hallmark Channel website:
When Aria Eubank (Pickler) convinces a famous travel writer to do a feature story on her beloved hometown, Midway, Utah, it looks like the town’s tourism drop is about to be reversed. However, when the travel guru and his ghostwriter both show up, Aria finds her heart torn between the charismatic but pompous Sterling Masters and Alex Bartlett (Hynes), the real talent behind ‘Masters of Travel,’ and the man who has genuinely fallen for her.
Here’s the preview, which includes a short scene from the movie as well:
I think the plot of this one is a departure from the norm, despite the “mistaken identity” premise at the beginning of the movie. Add in Tyler Hynes as the leading man, and I hope this one is a winner. But I can’t help but think that I’ll be on the struggle bus watching this one, despite the clear positives in place.
What do you think?

Am also hopeful that Kellie Pickler has grown more comfortable and skilled as an actress. There is just something very appealing about her so, without hesitation, I shall watch and enjoy.
