It’s weekend #4 already! How can that be? Here is a preview of the movies we’ll be enjoying this weekend on both Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
Hallmark Channel:
In Merry Measure, starring Patti Murin and Brendan Penny (Friday, November 11, 2022 at 8 p.m. ET)
Plot: When pop star Darcy returns home to spend Christmas with her sister and niece, she unexpectedly finds herself coaching the high school choir with her onetime rival, Adam.
Written by Russell Hainline, this appears to be the 2nd credit he has to his name. The other credit is a Lifetime TV movie in the thriller genre. Paula Elle directed, she being at the helm for last year’s The Christmas Contest. The trailer looks fun, and I loved Patti Murin in her supporting role in Love on Iceland and Holiday for Heroes.
The Royal Nanny starring Rachel Skarsten, Dan Jeannotte and Greta Scacchi. (Saturday, November 12 at 8 p.m. ET)
Plot: MI5 agent Claire goes undercover as the royal nanny, and must overcome the challenges of her assignment, like resisting the charms of Prince Colin while keeping the family safe at Christmas.
Royal nanny movies are always fun on Hallmark Channel. Royal nanny movies set at Christmastime? Those have a LOT to live up to given how popular “Crown for Christmas” is! Having said that, this movie should be a treat and it’s my pick for favorite of the weekend.
Christmas at the Golden Dragon starring Kara Wang, Osric Chau, Sara Canning, Antonio Cupo and Barbara Niven. (Sunday, November 13 at 8 p.m. ET)
Plot: With the town’s landmark Chinese restaurant closing, two siblings find themselves reevaluating their lives alongside the restaurant’s loyal patrons.
This sounds like another movie with a big cast, so I’m hoping for good things. Melynda Bissmeyer and Emily Ting provided the screenplay, with Hallmark director David I. Strasser directing. He directed last year’s A Very Merry Bridesmaid, which I enjoyed.
Hallmark Movies & Mysteries
Our Italian Christmas Memories starring Sarah Power and Beau Bridges. (Saturday, November 12 at 10 p.m. ET)
Plot: The Colucci siblings, in an effort to jog the memory of their grandfather who is struggling with dementia, set out to recreate their late grandmother’s legendary pasta sauce.
Oh my word, is this one gonna make me cry? I was a huge Beau Bridges fan as a kid (heck, I’m still a fan), and if this movie makes me cry… Having said that, screenwriter Joie Botkin is listed for this, and she’s written a few that I watch every year, like 2017’s “Miss Christmas,” Project Christmas Wish, and Her Pen Pal.
