This weekend features two sequels – the Graceland movie and this one, “Cherished Memories: A Gift to Remember 2.” I don’t remember there being so many sequels in previous years, but I guess Hallmark knows that fans like seeing their favorite characters return, so why not make sequels to movies that don’t necessarily require them?
“Cherished Memories” airs Sunday night at 8 p.m. ET on Hallmark Channel. Hallmark regulars Ali Liebert and Peter Porte reprise their roles as Darcy and Aiden, respectively, in this continuation of the popular 2017 movie. That movie was originally based on a book of the same name by author Melissa Hill and adapted by Topher Payne. This time around, the book was entitled “A Gift to Cherish,” by the same author, and is once again adapted by Topher Payne.
I may be in the minority here, but it’s rare for the Hallmark sequels to live up to the originals. I am not a fan of the Darcy series with Cindy Busby and Ryan Paevey, and while I liked the first and third of the “All of My Heart” series, the 2nd one was not good at all. The only sequel of sorts that I liked was the “Evergreen” sequel last Christmas, that featured Mark Deklin and Jill Wagner. But that had completely different characters, so it wasn’t a true sequel (and here’s where I note that I’m looking forward to the third installment this year with Paul Greene and Maggie Lawson).
Here is the plot, as outlined from the Hallmark Channel website:
A year after Darcy ran over Aiden, his amnesia is gone but not their love. Now she’s gotten him a first edition signed copy of his favorite book, Patricia Highsmith’s Found in the Street, for Christmas, perfect since that’s where she found him – under her bicycle! Aiden’s also creating a wonderful gift for Darcy, a carved replica of her hometown, just like the one her dad carved for her mother. But Aiden’s gift, which includes a carving of Darcy’s beloved rec center, which is in jeopardy of closing, holds another big surprise, which might just sweep her off her feet.
And here’s the preview clip of what we can expect:
I’ve seen the first movie a couple times (but for some reason have not run it through my spreadsheet), so I’m looking forward to this one. I don’t think it necessarily deserved (needed?) a sequel, though. I like Porte, and Liebert is always enjoyable and I’m glad she has a lead character people love since she excelled being the plucky best friend in previous movies).
What do you think? Are you excited about “Cherished Memories: A Gift to Remember 2?”
